Fire Affected area on the road to Lake Mountain near Marysville, Victoria, Australia
In February 2009, Victoria suffered extreme bush-fire conditions it was an horrendous day and the resulting loss of life, property, livestock and wildlife was staggering. 173 people died, 414 injuries occurred, over 3500 structures including 2500 houses were destroyed, 78 townships were significantly effected and over 7500 people were displaced from their homes. It is now referred to as Black Saturday.
The areas are still recovering and it will be many many years before the scars those fires left are gone from sight…with certainty they will never leave the memories of those left behind.
I will never forget that day, the courage people showed in the face of such odds, the horror people witnessed, the compassion and generosity that followed and the support from the entire Nation.
